Noémie de Rothschild, the visionary founder of Megève1920–1921: The Birth of Mont d’Arbois and an Exceptional Alpine Resort
In 1920, Noémie de Rothschild discovered the Mont d’Arbois plateau, high above Megève. Faced with this unspoiled landscape, bathed in soft light and surrounded by alpine peaks, she immediately envisioned a place unlike any other in France: an elegant mountain resort capable of embracing a new way of life in winter.
From this vision emerged one of the founding projects in the history of Megève and Mont d’Arbois. In 1921, the Palace des Neiges was inaugurated as the resort’s first hotel, paving the way for the creation of an internationally renowned Alpine resort. Under the leadership of Noémie de Rothschild, Megève gradually transformed into an iconic destination for French Alpine luxury, combining nature, elegance, and hospitality.

The invention of the luxury chalet in the AlpsWhen architecture and comfort redefine the mountain experience
At Mont d’Arbois, the history of Alpine hospitality took a decisive turn with the emergence of the modern chalet. Designed to meet the expectations of a discerning clientele, this new architectural model revolutionized the norms of mountain living.
Gone are the days of rustic cabins: make way for a luxury chalet in the Alps, designed to combine absolute comfort, aesthetic appeal, and functionality. The spaces are arranged across multiple levels, the materials exude warmth, and natural light floods in through large windows that frame the landscape.
Every detail is designed to enhance the experience: spacious interiors, inviting lounges, panoramic views, and a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces. This visionary concept, which has become synonymous with Megève, continues to shape the identity of the most beautiful luxury hotels and chalets today.
Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois embody this living legacy: a place where the architecture tells a story—one of authentic luxury, deeply rooted in its surroundings.
Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois: A Living Legacy in MegèveThree exceptional chalets for an intimate and refined experience
Over the generations, the history of Mont d’Arbois has been passed down through a family legacy deeply rooted in Megève. In the 1950s, Edmond de Rothschild, son of Noémie de Rothschild, continued to develop the estate and enhanced the resort’s reputation, notably through the renovation of the Palace des Neiges and the expansion of the Chalet du Mont d’Arbois.
Today, Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois embody this living legacy through three iconic chalets, named after three of Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild’s daughters: Noémie, Alice, and Eve. Located in the heart of Mont d’Arbois in Megève, they form a unique hotel complex that blends tradition with modernity.
Chalet Noémie retains the original character of 1920s Alpine architecture and the spirit of the first chalet designed by Henri-Jacques Le Même. Chalet Alice offers a more contemporary atmosphere, marked by a sense of warmth and bohemian elegance. Chalet Eve, the hotel’s historic building, embodies the tradition and family-home spirit characteristic of the grand estates of Mont d’Arbois.
Together, they form Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, a 5-star hotel in Megève where the Rothschild legacy, the resort’s history, and the mountain lifestyle come together in a single, unforgettable experience.
