Charming restaurants, hidden gems, and unique shops: discover the Mégevan way of life through our favorite spots.

Cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, an old bell tower, and little streams: strolling through Megève feels like stepping into a Savoyard fairy tale. But where should you stop for dinner, enjoy some après-ski, or do a little window shopping? A tour of the village, from the classics to the hidden gems.

The Best Restaurants in Megève

At Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, two restaurants offer guests the chance to experience very different culinary styles. Héritage, the hotel’s signature restaurant, embraces the Alpine brasserie concept with seasonal ingredients, dishes meant for sharing, reimagined chalet classics, and superb cuts of meat and fish prepared according to the seasons. Just 200 meters away, La Taverne du Mont d’Arbois offers a different experience with its Savoyard specialties and brasserie-style dishes, complemented by wood-fired pizzas and fresh pasta from the Italian menu.

Elsewhere in Megève, there’s no shortage of fine dining options: Flocons de Sel, Emmanuel Renaut’s three-Michelin-starred restaurant; Le Prieuré, right in the heart of the village; or Le Vieux Megève, known for its Savoyard cuisine. Very close to the chalets, Le Refuge du Calvaire—with its terrace surrounded by nature—offers another option, just a few minutes’ walk away.

And on the slopes, we recommend stopping at L’Idéal 1850, a chic mountain-top restaurant with a view of Mont Blanc, or at Chez La Tante for delicious grilled dishes served in a rustic wooden chalet centered around a fireplace.

At snack time, there are two options. The chocolate shop at the Grand Hôtel Soleil d’Or, where you can indulge in the traditional house-made hot chocolate, prepared the old-fashioned way and served with generous slices of old-school toast, topped with butter and chocolate shavings. Or the tea room at the Hôtel Mont-Blanc, where the experience revolves around a wonderful selection of hot chocolates and delicious homemade pastries. A great idea: extend your break until aperitif time, then treat yourself to a glass of champagne at the Les Enfants Terribles champagne bar.

Where can you go for a drink and party in Megève?

Because Megève comes alive with festivities as soon as you return from the slopes! At Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois, happy hour begins every evening at 5 p.m. at the bar, featuring a selection of wines by the glass or bottle, accompanied by platters of cold cuts and cheeses to share. You can stay there until 11 p.m., enjoying a cocktail or a digestif, either before or after dinner at Héritage.

To continue the evening in the village, head to the terrace at Le S for a glass of wine, a cocktail, and a few gourmet bites. Later, book a table at one of the spots that define a night out in Megève: La Ferme Saint-Amour, a former farmhouse that has become one of the resort’s hottest party spots; Le Piaf, a piano bar where you can dine before singing and dancing late into the night; or Kinugawa, a Japanese-inspired restaurant housed in the former casino.

On a different note, Les 5 Rues has become something of an institution, with its jazz club frequented by several generations of Mégevans.

The Best Shops in Megève for Shopping

Of course, there are the iconic shops in the city center, scattered around the

Church Square: Hermès, Aallard, Dior… ButMegève also has some charming independent boutiques where you can unearth a few hidden gems. At Poudreuse, a multi-brand boutique in the heart of the village, clothing and accessories sit alongside cosmetics, small decorative items, and a host of gift ideas to slip into your suitcase. For a more fashion-forward vibe, Big Boss showcases the latest collections from major fashion houses and a few trendy pieces perfect for hitting the slopes.

We also love popping into Scarlett, a bookstore brimming with beautiful books—but that’s not all: you’ll also find stationery, home decor, and fragrances there. Finally, you’ll need to venture a bit off the main streets to discover Trèfle Vert, a local shop specializing in fine linens with true expertise in tailoring.
