Why is Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois one of the best spa hotels in the French Alps?
Perched on the heights of Megève, the three Chalets du Mont d’Arbois come into view at the end of a small path, nestled among the fir trees. Situated at the foot of the alpine pastures, this exceptional retreat combines the charm of a historic home, breathtaking panoramic views, and a spa where guests can unwind after a day in the great outdoors. Whether in summer or winter, all the ingredients are in place for a rejuvenating getaway at high altitude.
A hotel deeply rooted in the spirit of Megève
In the early 1920s, Baroness Noémie de Rothschild set out to create a winter sports resort on the Mont d’Arbois plateau in Megève that could rival the elegant Alpine destinations of Europe. She enlisted the help of the young architect Henry-Jacques Le Même, who conceived a new model of housing: the “skier’s chalet,” inspired by traditional Megève farmhouses but adapted to modern comfort and lifestyle. The concept caught on and helped shape Megève’s architectural identity. It earned the baroness the nickname “the fairy godmother of Megève.”
A century later, this legacy is still very much alive at Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois. Owned by Edmond de Rothschild Heritage, this 5-star hotel in the Alps now features 40 rooms and suites spread across three wooden chalets named after the women of the family: Noémie, the first “Chalet du Skieur”; Ève; and Alice. Inside, aged wood, rough-hewn stone, and painted murals sit alongside works of art from the Rothschild collection and family mementos: Noémie’s famous cuckoo clocks (which, fortunately, no longer chime the hours), Baron Edmond’s walking sticks, and a few photographs… Guests settle into a refined setting rich with historical references—a slice of Alpine history imbued with aristocratic chic.
A peaceful setting just a few minutes from downtown Megève
Located less than two kilometers from the center of Megève, the Chalets du Mont d’Arbois enjoy the tranquility of the woods without being isolated from the slopes or the village. The Mont d’Arbois gondolas are just a few minutes’ walk away—and even closer by the hotel’s shuttle service. To reach the center, allow seven minutes by car or about twenty minutes on foot along the charming Chemin du Calvaire, lined with small chapels. The hotel’s location also offers lovely views: of the village and its bell tower, the mountains, and sometimes even Mont d’Arbois, depending on the orientation of the rooms.
This little mountain paradise exudes the comforting spirit of a family home. Cozy lounges, a gourmet tea time after a day of skiing (featuring a renowned blueberry tart), bistronomic cuisine at Héritage, activities for the little ones, and an attentive staff: you’ll quickly feel right at home… Ski passes are already ready at the front desk, a shuttle transports guests from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the concierge shares their top recommendations and organizes unforgettable experiences (dog sledding, helicopter flights over Mont Blanc…).
Time for some relaxation: the spa at Les Chalets du Montd’Arbois
And since relaxation is an integral part of the stay, Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois features a true destination spa by Susanne Kaufmann, an Austrian brand specializing in holistic treatments that also originated in the Alps. In Chalet Ève, the space is inspired by Greek temples and features “ ,” a superb “ ” , with heated indoor and outdoor pools, outdoor hot tubs, a sauna, a fitness room, and several treatment rooms, including one for two.
À la carte: 50- or 90-minute massages (customers’ favorites in both summer and winter), customized treatments tailored to your mood of the day (relaxing, invigorating, or detoxifying), or a Signature Experience in three parts: exfoliation, massage, and a rejuvenating facial. In winter, it’s the perfect place to soothe your muscles after a day of skiing. In the summer, guests can enjoy the outdoor pool, sunbathing on the terrace, and the tranquility of the hamlet upon returning from the trails… And so, in both seasons, guests return to Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois with equal delight after a day in the mountains!
